Patient Knocks Over Monitor in Appointment Dispute
The clip begins with a receptionist in blue scrubs and a black face mask trying to schedule a patient. She says April 27 is the earliest available date. The patient says she got off work late and could not call sooner, then pushes for an earlier appointment.
The receptionist says there is nothing sooner and tells her she can try another provider. The patient also raises concerns about insurance, but the receptionist says the clinic is not charging anything at that point.
They then discuss appointment times. The receptionist offers 8:00 AM and says the doctor does not see contact lens patients in the afternoon. The patient argues that morning appointments do not work with her job.
After more arguing, the receptionist tells the patient to leave and find another doctor because of the way she is speaking to staff. The patient brings up her job, children, and says she previously referred four people to the clinic.
Near the end, the patient moves behind the desk and knocks the computer monitor toward the receptionist. The receptionist stands up and tells her to leave as the video ends.
Do you think the receptionist handled this the right way?
